Starting Solids

Starting solids is an exciting and very important milestone in baby’s development. In this article you would find out when to start solids and how to start solids

WHEN TO START SOLIDS

So every first time mother is very curious about when to start solids to your munchkin. As i was very excited too, to introduce food to my daughter. Every first time mother have these type of thoughts in her mind that starting solids too early might increase the risk of choking or stomach aches, but starting too late means you might slow your baby’s growth. According to my research you can start sometime between 4 and 6 months of age. Though, ideally, baby should be receiving his nutrition exclusively from breast milk until the six-month. I had started solids to my daughter at about 4 and half month. You have to start noticing signs that your baby is ready. Signs that your baby is ready for solids include:
  • she holds her head steady
  • she can stay upright in a sitting position with or without any support
  • She look at food and open her mouth for it

When you do start weaning, another good sign that your baby is ready is if she swallows the food, rather than pushing it out of her mouth.

HOW TO INTRODUCE SOLIDS

Introducing solids is a gradual and slow process so stay patient and dont feed her in a large quantity at once.
Start with a half spoonful will do at first and then gradually increase the amount.
You may even appriciate and talk to baby through it like "Very good", “Hmm Yummy” etc. I sometimes sing ABC as she loves its and gets happy and open her mouth very quickly :D
Sit baby upright such that her back is straight on high chair or any other place.
Try new foods more than once because babies taste has not yet developed and for almost every new food she will make weird face so you may need to try a food 20 times before a baby actually likes it.
Stick with the same food for three days before trying another one. This makes it easy to track whether baby is allergic to a particular food or not.
